Modern Slavery Statement

Introduction

This statement is made pursuant to section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015. It constitutes Kirklands Care Group’s slavery and human trafficking statement for the financial year ended 31 March 2020. Of Kirklands Care Group’s wholly-owned subsidiaries, this statement covers the activities of those subsidiaries which engage in providing goods or services in the UK.

Our Organisation

Kirklands Care Group is a leading operator of care homes for the elderly.

We have around 110 staff all of whom are based in the United Kingdom. Our staff are largely directly employed and are not in any category that is generally seen to be vulnerable to modern slavery in this country, so our focus is to ensure there are policies and procedures in place for our contractors and suppliers.

Our Supply Chain

Kirklands Care Group uses a wide range of suppliers who supply goods for sale or provide services to support our operations.

Kirklands Care Group is committed to continuously improving its practices to identify and eliminate any slavery and human trafficking in its business and supply chains, and to acting ethically and with integrity in all its business relationships. We expect our suppliers to promote similar standards in their own supply chain.

Policies

Kirklands Care Group has a number of policies that aim to minimise the risk of modern slavery in our supply chain. In particular, we have a clear whistleblowing policy, which encourages staff to report concerns including any related to modern slavery /trafficking and child, or forced labour. We have clear anti-discrimination and equal opportunities policies. Employees must be provided with clear contractual terms for their employment and treated in a fair and equal manner and with dignity and respect.

Due Diligence

All our employees have access to dedicated channels through which they may voice concerns, either through local reporting mechanisms or through the overarching whistleblowing procedure. Kirklands Care Group is committed to protecting employees when disclosing malpractice and will ensure that all disclosures made in good faith will be treated confidentially and without fear of retaliation.

We verify the identity of each worker and their right to work before employment commences and we ensure our suppliers of staff carry out the same checks before employment commences.

Training

All staff are expected to comply with all laws and act in accordance with local guidelines and regulations and act with integrity and honesty. We have undertaken to review our policies and procedures to ensure our colleagues have access to any additional information and support they may require with regard to human trafficking, forced labour, servitude and slavery.
