Highfield House Care Home

Welcome to Highfield House – our nursing and care home located in the beautiful coastal town of Whitehaven. Our highly qualified, experienced and compassionate team are ready and waiting to welcome you to the newest addition to the Kirklands family.

As soon as you arrive at Highfield House, you’ll receive the warmest of welcomes. As the first facility in the Kirklands care group to also offer nursing care, you’ll quickly become part of a wonderful family of residents, and staff who can provide the support you need to live comfortably and in dignity with us.

We actively encourage residents and their families to make proactive decisions about their day to day lives, from the care you receive to the activities they take part in. When you come to live at Highfield House, you’ll retain as much independence as possible in all that you do, and our teams will be on hand to give you the reassurance and encouragement you need.

Welcome Home

Welcome home to Highfield House. Set in a peaceful, rural location where residents can still enjoy the revitalising sea air, this comfortable, calming home offers everything residents need to feel safe, secure and part of a friendly, caring community. All bedrooms are fully furnished ready for your arrival, but personalisation is actively encouraged, and we’ll help you to put your own personality into your private space so that you can truly make it your own.

Resident safety is our priority and we’ve maximised floor space to enable them to move around safely, whether they are in their own room or in any of the comfortable communal spaces where they can enjoy time with other residents or carers, or with visiting friends and family. When the weather is good, our secure gardens are open for them to wander and enjoy.

Highfield House provides residential care for up to 67 people of mixed physical and cognitive ability, as well as nursing care for a range of needs, including Dementia, Parkinson’s disease and mental health issues.

Wellness

While we like to give our residents the option to choose how they spend their time, we do encourage them to take part in the many different activities on offer at Highfield House. We have a dedicated activities coordinator who provides a wide range of different activities and ensures there’s something suitable for every resident to enjoy. Those that are particularly popular include games, puzzles, baking and quizzes. We also have singers and local dance groups come in, along with a local petting zoo. We’re also delighted to welcome ideas from residents for new activities that they would like to try.

I feel my mam has excellent care and that she is treated with love and care. The staff are working hard to meet mam’s needs and when I leave, I have no worries because she has the best care.

- A relative

Physical exercise is just as important as mental stimulation, and we have regular exercise classes delivered by qualified instructors who can adapt movements to suit the age and ability of our residents. We also receive visits from a local hairdresser and chiropodist to help keep our residents looking and feeling their best. For those residents of faith, regular visits from a local vicar often provides reassurance and comfort.

Our Staff

We understand that leaving a vulnerable loved one in the care of someone else can be daunting. That’s why our staff have not only undertaken extensive training that enables them to offer the very highest levels of care but are also extremely passionate about delivering that care with respect and dignity. Following input from them and their families, Individual care plans are created for every resident, and regularly reviewed to ensure that they offer the greatest quality of life as well as meeting any physical and psychological needs. And if you ever have any concerns, our door is always open.

Our residents benefit from 24/7 care and support at the highest standards of professional service.
